Series – The Liturgy: A Work of the Trinity

In the Church’s liturgy the divine blessing is fully revealed and communicated. The Father is acknowledged and adored as the source and the end of all the blessings of creation and salvation. In his Word who became incarnate, died, and rose for us, he fills us with his blessings. Through his Word, he pours into our hearts the Gift that contains all gifts, the Holy Spirit.
–Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 1082

This series, by Dr. Michael Brummond, highlights the work of the Blessed Trinity in the Sacred Liturgy. The series begins with “The Liturgy: A Work of the Trinity, a Work of the Father,” and highlights not only the Trinitarian nature of the liturgy, but the central role that God the Father plays in the liturgy. The second article, “Per Christum Dominum Nostrum: The Work of the Son in the Liturgy,” invites us to contemplate the work of the Son in our worship of the Most Holy Trinity. The final article in the series highlights the role of the Holy Spirit in animating the liturgical action itself: “The Spirit in the Liturgy: The Work of the Third Person of the Trinity in the Sacraments.”
