Oremus: Formation in Latin for a Living Posture of Prayer

The Latin language is more than just traditional—it is the mother tongue of the Church. Understanding the original texts often reveals theological depths that remain hidden in translations.

Adoremus is delighted to feature the work of Oremus, a Catholic organization committed to helping Catholics and seekers not only speak the words of the liturgy in Latin, but to understand their deep meaning and so grow in their relationship with God.

As Sacrosanctum Concillium states, “steps should be taken so that the faithful may also be able to say or to sing together in Latin those parts of the Ordinary of the Mass which pertain to them” (54). Oremus has worked energetically so that the path set forth for us by the Second Vatican Council can be followed.

With their innovative interlinear method and word-for-word analysis, Oremus makes it easy to learn Latin intuitively. Grammar and vocabulary are taught directly from the living text. Moreover, Oremus features high-quality audio recordings, so that one is not only learning the text, but learning the correct pronunciation and so as to form the faithful to vocally join in prayer. Whether in private devotions, praying the Angelus with the Holy Father, attending Sunday Mass at a multi-lingual parish, or on pilgrimage in the Holy Land, Latin connects us across borders and across the centuries.
