About the Image of Christ the King Enthroned
Images of Christ the King often depict Him surrounded with the symbols of the four Evangelists as winged creatures: Matthew, a young man; Mark, a lion; Luke, an ox, and John, an eagle. This imagery is from Revelation 4:2,6-8, and is similar to the vision of the prophet Ezekiel (Ez. 10:14). Images of the Evangelists as actual men are frequently added, as in the Burgos Cathedral tympanum above, where they are shown sitting at their writing desks, at left, right and above the figure of Christ the King.

I will extol thee, my God and King, and bless thy name for ever and ever.
